New Bombpops song!

Today, Brooklynvegan is premiering a brand new Bombpops song: “Be Sweet.” Culled from their debut full-length, Fear of Missing Out (out this Friday), this infectious song is what The Bombpops are all about. “Be Sweet” holds a special place for The Bombpops, as the lyrics were written by their dear friend, the late Brandon Carlisle of Teenage Bottlerocket. Here’s what vocalist/guitarist Jen Razavi had to say about how the song developed:

Back in 2010, we were partying in a hotel room with Brandon and Ray Carlisle. There was a guitar in the room, and Brandon was showing us an idea he had for a song. He had written it for his wife, but he told us we should play it and change the lyrics to “getting rad with my boyfriend.” He wrote down all the lyrics on 4 sheets of hotel notepad paper. Since then, the melody and the chord progression were forgotten, but I still had the lyrics. We wrote the song in the studio and used every single lyric that Brandon had written down. The song is an homage to Brandon and Teenage Bottlerocket. Our producer, Chris Fogal, had the idea to title the song “Be Sweet,” as that was Brandon’s saying. We’re really thrilled this song made the record. Brandon was an outstanding friend to us, and we miss him dearly.

The Bombpops are kicking off a flurry of record release shows this Friday. If you’re able, grab a copy from them in the flesh, or order your copy today!

Listen to a new Western Addiction song! Preorder Now!

There is nothing peaceful about the new Western Addiction video, premiering over at The Onion A.V. Club. The aural and visual serenity of the opening scene belies the dread to come. That feeling is the idea the band conveys with “Taedium,” the second single from their upcoming full-length, Tremulous, out March 10. Songwriter and vocalist Jason Hall explains these ideas below:

This song was originally called “Taedium Vitae” which translates to “weariness of life.” It was written long before the dire situation the world is currently in, but resonates exponentially at this moment in time. The song is very special to us for several reasons. It perfectly sums up the entire theme of our new record, which is anxiety, anguish, worry, and dread. It also features one of our favorite humans, Todd Kowalski of Propagandhi. He’s one of the most powerful singers I’ve ever seen live and we deeply respect him and Propagandhi on several levels. We are honored to have him sing on the record. Lastly, the song is also an homage to “The Four Horsemen” by Metallica, which we spend a great deal of time discussing. An interesting side note: the woman featured in the lyric video, Mary Woronov, worked with Andy Warhol and was in Rock ‘n’ Roll High School and Suicidal Tendencies’ “Institutionalized” video. It doesn’t get cooler than that.

Check out their upcoming record release shows, then pre-order Tremulous today!

Teenage Bottlerocket Back on FAT!

Get ready to FREAK OUT, because Teenage Bottlerocket have returned to the FAT fold!!! We couldn’t be more excited to share this news with you, because we’ve missed them terribly. Their infectious energy and positive vibes are hard to duplicate. Now, let’s get to the super fun stuff, their plans for 2017, which include a brand new album and touring. Read what guitarist/vocalist, Ray Bottlerocket had to say about their upcoming year, which is sure to be massive:

Fat Mike once told me, “Teenage Bottlerocket will always be a Fat band.” Guess what? Our new record, that we begin recording at the Blasting Room on March 5th, will be released on Fat Wreck Chords sometime this summer! We have always had a tight relationship with Fat and we are looking forward to working with them again. 2017 is going to be a busy year for TBR; we hit the road with Mr. T Experience in early April for a stint in California and Arizona. We are also shredding a one off at Reggie’s in Chicago, one of our favorite cities to play rock music. Personally, I’m looking forward to the March 31st show in Denver which is Brandon and I’s birthday. Playing a hometown show in Laramie, Wyoming on the 1st of April, that’s no joke! We’re heading back to Japan for the first time since 2009. I know I’m leaving out some shows so stay tuned for more tour announcements. Fully stoked! Stoked for the sick sesh!

Love. -Ray
