With Thanksgiving on the horizon I thought I would give you something to be thankful for other than a dry turkey or that tube-shaped, cranberry thing that kind of looks like a gelatinous, rolled up sleeping bag… BAD ASTRONAUT Twelve Small Steps, One Giant Disappointment. This is the third and final album from the indie rock side project of Lagwagon’s lead singer and songwriter Joey Cape. This 7-piece band features Marko from Sugarcult and former Lagwagon drummer Derrick Plourde. As a pony-tailed label schlep, I’m not supposed to tell you about where you can hear numerous songs from the record for free but we have two mp3’s up here, you can hear “Stillwater, California” here and what the hell…you can hear the whole damn thing here. Don’t forget about the Joey Spews section of the band’s website for constant updates. Now you can go back to watching your dad chugging “pilgrim punch” and fall asleep yelling at the Cowboys…maybe that’s just my family. NO THANKSgiving!
Today is the day and “no” I don’t mean it is the day you are allowed to dress up like a flasher “legally”. The brand new Leftover Crack / Citizen Fish split 7" is officially out and the Cracktoberfest tour is well under way. The poor Sainte Catherines have regrettably missed two shows but other than that it’s squatting right along. I heard it was because of bad weather but I bet they were swimming. Dead To Me joins the tour on Nov. 12th in Albuquerque. This is all of course leading up to the split CD we are putting out with Leftover Crack and Citizen Fish in March of 2007. Each band will be contributing 7 songs with Leftover Crack covering a Subhumans and Citizen Fish song and Citizen Fish covering a Choking Victim and Leftover Crack song. Leftover Crack guitarist Brad Logan wrote this cool piece about the origin of the Cracktoberfest tour that I want you to check out. Alright, go smash pumpkins.
NOFX have updated their website and mapped out their upcoming plans for 2007. They also posted some cool photos of them eating dinner and buying swords from their recent trip to South America in the Bore Journal. The band had this to say…
Nearly dozens of you have written to ask us our plans, when are we coming to your town? etc. Here are our basic plans for 2007. In January we will play a bunch of shows in California, keep on the look out for dates soon.
Then in mid February we will finally make the leap back down under, New Zealand, Australia and finally Tasmania. Sorry it has taken so long. In April we go to Japan and we hope to go to China, Taiwan, Thailand and Malaysian, maybe some other places in Asia. We are open to ideas, if you have any, write the Bore Journal and make the subject “Asia or Bust”.
After this we will take a few months off. Why? It’s a secret, try to guess. In the late summer we will be in Europe for sure. Then in the fall we will go to Central America and the Caribbean, as well as try to make up for the shows that failed in South America this fall.
Smoke or Fire just got out of the studio where they were recording the follow up to their debut record Above the City. The new album is called This Sinking Ship and it will be out early next year. The band is headed out on a 12 date tour which will route them to the Fest in Gainesville and then up to our CMJ showcase in Brooklyn on Nov. 1st. Along the way they will be filming a video in Minneapolis and playing a free in-store in Chicago on Oct. 22nd at Reckless Records. Go see them live and give them a front row review of their show kind of like how Jeremy did on the Fat Tour last year.
Also, the new Me First and the Gimme Gimmes record came out on Tuesday so feel free to order it here. You will be able to start ordering the Leftover Crack/Citizen Fish split 7" next Wednesday, Oct. 25th.
Wrangler butts drive us nuts!!! Check out what you get (while supplies last) when you pre-order the new Me First and the Gimme Gimmes record Love Their Country from our webstore before it comes out on October 17th. We went ahead and put a delicious wild berry wine cooler in it for your viewing pleasure because this is actually what you would drink 3/4’s of and then hurl in your Chevy side-step. It’s wet AND it’s dry. I think you’d better tell all your cowboy friends you drank 14 Buds instead of what your Aunt drinks to “unwind” up at the lake so they won’t brand you behind the barn. This thing will keep your hands warm and your tasty beverage cold while you are tippin’ cows at midnight. Listen to Ghost Riders In The Sky and enjoy your new coozie.
